Piracy crackdown in the United States is now ordering every internet service provider (ISP) to block access to three online pirate streaming services.
Piracy Crackdown
As per a news story by Arstechnica, it comes after the defendants of these piracy sites failed to show up in court. On top of that, the federal judge also said that they were hiding in false identities.
The court order was issued by the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York last April 26.
It is worth noting that the court order involved three piracy sites. So, the rulings were given away in three separate ones, but they were all identical.
The ruling of the District Court for the Southern District of New York is ordering all of the ISPs in the US, which includes the biggest names out there, such as Verizon, T-Mobile, and AT&T.
It also includes other massive internet providers, namely Charter, Comcast, Xfinity, and Spectrum.
The court ruling was specific about it. In fact, it listed down each and every ISPs in the US, which is 96 in total.
However, the order said that even if an ISP is not on the list, all operating in the US are ordered to comply. So essentially, the ruling affects all ISPs in the country, regardless if their name is specifically spelled out in the court document or not.
ISPs Ordered to Block Pirate Sites
The District Court is ordering all of these ISPs to block three specific pirate streaming platforms "by any technological means available" on their systems.
The internet providers should also redirect those who are trying to access the affected pirate sites with a landing page, which the Plaintiffs control.
The landing page banners a huge headline highlighted in red which reads: "This website is no longer available due to copyright infringement."
It also included some context on why access to it has been completely blocked. It transparently disclosed that the page is no longer available due to the order of the US District Judge, Katherine Polk Failla.
On top of that, the landing page also includes a message saying that "If you were harmed in any way by the Court's decision you may file a motion to the Federal Court in the Southern District of New York in the above case."
Block Piracy Sites
According to a recent report by Torrent Freak, the three piracy sites include Sdarot.tv, Israel.tv, and Israel-tv.com.
The lawsuits against these sites were filed collectively by movie providers, film producers, and none other than Israeli TV itself.
