As per a news story by CNBC, Netflix decided to cancel the development of the animated series "Pearl," which the Duchess of Sussex, Markle, created.
The streaming service reportedly told the news outlet that the decision to drop "Pearl" is part of its strategic moves when it comes to animated series on the platform.
As it turns out, Netflix is also canceling other animated series offerings, and Markle's "Pearl" is one of the notable titles that the service has already confirmed.
The animated series by the Duchess of Sussex was announced last year or in 2021 as part of the deal between Netflix and the firm of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the Archewell Production.
The multi-year deal between the streaming service and Archewell Production is set to produce various content for Netflix, which includes feature films, documentaries, and even programs for kids.
Meghan Markle's Netflix Animated Series Canceled
The animated series that was supposed to be the lovechild of the Archewell and Netflix collaboration, "Pearl," is now bidding farewell before even being released on the streaming service.
According to a news story by BBC, the move of Netflix to drop the animated show of Markle is actually part of its cost-saving measures as the streaming firm faces a bleak earnings decline.
The British news outlet went on to reveal that the now-canceled Netflix animated series is supposed to follow the story of a 12-year-old girl, who got inspired by the iconic and influential women that made history across the world.
Nevertheless, Netflix still confirmed that its partnership with Archewell Productions is not completely gone due to the current restructuring. Instead, the streaming service will continue to produce multiple projects, including an upcoming documentary, "Heart of Invictus."
Netflix Animated Series Dropped
Apart from the cancellation of "Pearl," Netflix also announced that it is foregoing the development of its upcoming animated shows, namely, "Boons and Curses" and "Dino Daycare."
The decision to drop these animated series is part of the massive cost-cutting that Netflix is now implementing to help its revenue growth.
The giant streaming service, which still takes a majority of the market in the United States, previously announced that its subscribers significantly fell. The tech giant further warned that millions more are leaving the service soon.
