Left or Right is the question to Elon Musk when he initially said that he aims to make Twitter politically neutral and claimed that it means to upset both sides. However, the CEO released a chart of his "side" progression throughout the years, marking the sides he was in for the past years and where his stand is currently.
Elon Musk: Left or Right? Shows Chart on the side of Things
Musk released a chart that shows a stick version of himself on two sides of politics; one is the leftist side he referred to as "Liberals," and the other is the rightist side called the "Conservatists."
It also shows the years when the CEO is on the said side, explaining his progression.
The photo shows that in 2008 and 2012, the billionaire is near the center but is leaning toward the leftist side. In 2012, the CEO leaned over to the "productive" or "woke" movement. However, fast forward to 2021, the CEO crossed over the neutral line and remained on the rightist side.
The CEO's meter considers himself more on the right side and is still close to the neutral or centerline.
Billy Markus explained that he was on the progressive side too, but is now moderate that still believes in equality and only avoids being an "a**h*le" over things. Musk agreed with Markus' statement.
Twitter to be Politically Neutral, Says Musk
Musk also said that Twitter could only get or deserve the public trust if the company remained "neutral" over things, and his goal is to make it possible for both sides to express themselves online. The billionaire said that the new social media's free speech would equally upset both the rightist and leftist movements with his campaign.
Elon Musk's New Twitter
Free speech is the goal of Twitter's new owner and largest stakeholder after the company's recent purchase for as much as $44 billion. Twitter may be lost on its Community Guidelines and policies online, but that does not mean that it has restrictions on several topics or critical points. It is something that Musk may improve or change soon.
Musk has talked about the campaign for free speech on Twitter for a long time now, but the tech CEO has spoken about this since his induction into its board last month. Several weeks later, he is now the company's top executive, and its new owner aims to take it private and have "censorship" that does not go beyond the law.
Freedom of Speech means a lot, and it is a spectrum with many gray areas that the tech CEO decided to tackle in his recent statements. Both sides would equally see each other on the platform, and Twitter will remain politically neutral to give the right of speech to everyone that needs it.
Elon Musk is taking a side, and it is to make Twitter a neutral ground for online discourses for everyone.
