'Star Wars' Game From 'Uncharted' Creator Is Actually A Revival Of A Canceled Project

The upcoming "Star Wars" game from "Uncharted" creator Amy Hennig might seem like an entirely new thing, but it's in truth a revival of a project that was canceled years ago.

According to WCCFTech, Hennig's project with her new studio Skydance New Media is a return to the one called Project Ragtag. That was another "Star Wars" game that was being made at Visceral Games before EA shut down the studio way back in 2017. But work on the game still continued for two years after the shutdown, until it was itself canceled.

The information comes from industry insider AccountNgt, who has earned a reputation for leaking out accurate details about "Star Wars" games in the past. In a report by DualShockers, Visceral Games was deep in the development of the game and there were even some pieces of concept art being released online.

Either way, the game has been confirmed as in development in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, as announced on StarWars.com. Amy Hennig's Skydance New Media will join the veritable list of non-EA studios who have been given the greenlight by Lucasfilm to make "Star Wars" games for the foreseeable future.

They join the likes of Ubisoft, Quantic Dream, Aspyr, and even mobile gaming giant Zynga. Previously, only EA or EA-owned studios can make official "Star Wars" games, but Lucasfilm is definitely branching out.

Here are Amy Hennig's thoughts on the new collaboration:

"I've often described how seeing 'Star Wars' in 1977 essentially rewired my 12-year-old brain, shaping my creative life and future indelibly. I'm elated to be working with Lucasfilm Games again to tell interactive stories in this galaxy that I love."

Lucasfilm Games VP Douglas Reilly had this to say about the partnership:

"We couldn't be more thrilled to be working again with Amy. She and the Skydance New Media team have the talent and ambition to create a unique 'Star Wars' adventure. We're working hard with their team of experienced and talented developers, and we're looking forward to sharing more with 'Star Wars' fans when the time is right."

What Is The New 'Star Wars' Game About?

As previously mentioned, it is a revival of Hennig's old Project Ragtag. Old details about the canceled project revealed some interesting things.

For one, the game will reportedly be set during the Rebel Alliance Era. This is the exact time period where the original trilogy is set ("A New Hope," "Empire Strikes Back," and "Return of the Jedi.") So there could be a lot of familiar places here and there when this game does come out.

There are also several pieces of concept art from Project Ragtag that were released several years ago, but only gained ground again after Hennig's project was announced. The concept art was shared on MakingStarWars.net, and it shows what could be a group featuring several protagonists.

MakingStarWars also posted a video detailing the story of Ragtag back in 2020, which you could check out here:

There's no release date or even a vague release window for the game. But it does join a veritable roster of upcoming "Star Wars" games from multiple non-EA and EA-connected studios, so it's going to be an exciting next few years for fans of the Galaxy Far, Far Away.
