The updated Moderna COVID-19 Omicron vaccine's distribution date is now confirmed. The health tech firm announced that the redesigned medicine would arrive around fall.
This means that the new vaccine is expected to be distributed as early as September.
Moderna confirmed this distribution plan after it discovered that the new version would be affected by the highly contagious Omicron strain.
The existing vaccines are commonly based on the first variant of COVID-19. However, experts suggested that new medicines are needed since the deadly virus is still mutation.

The pharmaceutical giant claimed that the redesigned Moderna vaccine version, specifically targeting the Omicron strain, is more effective than the common vaccine boosters.
"These results really give us hope," said Moderna's Vice President Dr. Jacqueline Miller.
However, the preliminary findings announced on Tuesday, Apr. 19, are still not vetted by independent health researchers.
Redesigned Moderna Vaccine's Efficiency
The New York Times reported that the new Moderna vaccine targeting Omicron is quite efficient, based on trial results.
The health firm's experiments showed that the new vaccine would be a bivalent version of the original Moderna medicine.
Involved scientists stated that the new vaccine would provide a stronger defense against Delta and Omicron, as well as the older COVID-19 strains.
This information was revealed after the volunteers received their own vaccine shots.
Using the redesigned Moderna Omicron vaccine, the participants were able to produce more antibodies, around twice as many as those who received the older vaccines.
