LinkedIn Adds New Titles to Help People who Focused on Child Care or Homeschooling During the Pandemic
LinkedIn is often known as a place where professionals can seek jobs while companies can seek their needed workforce through an online social media-like platform. Within the platform, individuals can fill in their work experience with corresponding companies and positions they have worked in.
According to Business Insider, the move of LinkedIn to add the new titles will help users who either focused on homeschooling or child care during the pandemic to fill in the blanks on their work experience.
Employment Gaps to be More Explainable for Workers who Had to Leave Positions to Focus on Their Kids
The publication notes that with the new job titles, it will be easier for individuals to explain the gaps regarding their parenting-based roles on LinkedIn. This will help parents make a more solid resume despite taking time off from work.
The story by USA Today details the different instances wherein certain people had to leave work or focus on their kids especially during the pandemic. Due to schools being shut down during the pandemic and kids having to study at home, some parents had no choice but to leave their jobs to focus on their children.
Talk of New Position Started in 2021
LinkedIn is attempting to make this decision more understandable from a professional perspective. Instead of leaving employment gaps on a users' resume, they can now opt to simply fill it up with "stay at home mom" or "stay at home dad."
The feature has been long talked about and, in an article by Fortune back in March of 2021, the feature was already being talked about as 2.3 million women decided to leave the workforce in order to focus on their kids.
LinkedIn to Help Workers Explain 'Caretaker Hiatus' on Digital Resumes
According the publication, LinkedIn has repeatedly been asked to add the status, which helps explain the "caregiver hiatus" that appears on the users' digital resumes. Finally, users will be given better options to help them explain the gaps within their resumes.

Talk of Stay at Home Positions Happened During Idea of Gender Pronouns to be Added
The talk of a potential "stay at home mom" or "stay at home" dad position happened during the time that gender pronouns were also being discussed on the platform.
As of press time, gender pronouns have already come into effect with the stay at home options being LinkedIn's latest addition to its job-finding and employee-seeking platform.
