Minecraft 2022: How to Check Where the Screenshots are Saved

Finding your Minecraft screenshot may be tricky because there are a few different versions out there, and they install in different places.

These different versions also save screenshots of Minecraft in different places. Here's how you can easily find them.

Finding Screenshots from Java Version of Minecraft

The Java version of Minecraft saves the screenshots into a folder in the main Minecraft directory. If you have no idea where the Minecraft was installed, this is the easiest way to find your screenshots, according to HowtoGeek.

There is a notification on the screen every single time that you take a screenshot in the Java version of Minecraft.

The file name, which is automatically generated based on the time and date of the screenshot, is clickable.

When you click the name, it will open the image in your phone's Photos app. And from there, you can easily find the folder.

To do this, just click the three dots in the top right-hand corner and then just tap on "File Information."

A sidebar will open with all of the information about the Minecraft file. The file location is displayed mid-way down, so just click the option to view the file so you can open the screenshots folder, according to Business Insider.

Regular Minecraft Screenshot Location

Minecraft installs to the Minecraft folder by default, and you will find the screenshots in the said folder. The launcher allows you to have several installations of Minecraft, it is very handy if you want to run multiple versions, or run a modded client alongside a vanilla client.

Screenshots are stored between different Minecraft versions, so you will have a screenshot folder for each installation. Just click "installations" to view a list of all of the versions of Minecraft that you have installed.

Hover over any of the installations that you have and just click the folder icon that shows to open the specific Minecraft folder. Look for another folder that is named "Screenshots."

FTB Location

Feed the Beast or FTB won't install in the default Minecraft location, but it retains the same folder hierarchy as the regular Minecraft, according to GamePur.

That means that wherever you install an FTB mod pack, the screenshots folder will be found inside the modded folder.

Each installation of Minecraft is called an Instance and you can find yours by clicking the gear icon in the bottom left corner of the FTB app.

Select the Instances tab and look for the box labeled Instance Location. Then it is just a matter of opening the folder that corresponds to the right mod pack.

Finding Screenshots From Minecraft Bedrock Edition

The Windows 10 and 11 version of Minecraft, also called Bedrock Edition, removed the ability to take screenshots using the in-game controls and outsourced it to the Game Bar.

The Game Bar saves screenshots to the captures folder by default, and it is where all of the screenshots are.
If they are not there, the capture location may have been changed.

Open the Game Bar by hitting Windows+g or by typing Game Bar into the start menu search bar and clicking Open and See My Captures.

Click the folder and the Game Bar will open File Explorer to the folder where all of your screenshots are saved.
