Despite the excitement around the "Mass Effect" universe with gamers pumped up for the upcoming "Mass Effect 4," BioWare announced that, sadly, the game is still in its early stages of development.
This means that the game's launch might not line up to initial estimates.
BioWare Gives Brief 'Mass Effect' Update
According to WeGotThisCovered, BioWare announced that the upcoming "Mass Effect" game, which was given the unofficial title of "Mass Effect 4" by fans, is still far off from completion. Not much details were revealed but luckily, the company said they are excited to show fans what they have been working on.
In an official BioWare community update, the team became transparent with fans to let them know exactly what they are doing. This included updates regarding their future projects along with a short update regarding "Mass Effect 4."
Next Game Unofficially Dubbed 'Mass Effect 4' or 'Mass Effect 5'
According to BioWare, "Mass Effect 4" is still within the game's early stages of development meaning there would still be a lot the company has to do before it launches to the public. The company did confirm the existence of an upcoming "Mass Effect" game but said that it is still far from finished.
An article by ComicBook says that the next game has been unofficially called "Mass Effect 4," there are other fans that have called the game "Mass Effect 5." The publication brought back how BioWare struggled with the development of "Mass Effect Andromeda" stating this could make it hard to give an exact prediction on when the game is expected to launch.
BioWare to Focus on 'Dragon Age 4'
WeGotThisCovered also mentioned that one reason why BioWare is struggling with the upcoming "Mass Effect" game is because it could be struggling in another department, "Dragon Age 4." BioWare is still trying to finish "Dragon Age 4" while racing against the clock in order to beat the deadline.
Within the community update, Maciej Kurowski, the technical director for "Dragon Age" detailed the scheduling process when it came to an "AAA title of the fantasy role-playing franchise's scale."
Developers Share Excitement Regarding 'Dragon Age'
Kurowski shared his excitement regarding the game saying that it was "shaping up to be something amazing." This shows how BioWare is pouring a significant amount of resources into "Dragon Age" instead of "Mass Effect."
This could, however, shift later on once the team finally moves forward with "Dragon Age" finally making room for BioWare to focus heavily on "Mass Effect." As of press time, there is still no estimate as to the launch frame for both titles since both are still under development.
Normally, the amount of time needed on development for AAA titles is enormous so it's safe to say that the two titles might not launch that soon as BioWare has not yet given an official date.
