Intel's renewable energy effort is expected to reduce (or even remove) its carbon emissions drastically. If this is true, then the company is definitely on the right track to becoming an eco-friendly tech firm.
The giant chipmaker said that it would invest around $300 million in renewable energy efforts. Once this budget is released, the company will use it to study new chemical processes that can be used to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Giant tech manufacturers are always urged to find greener ways to produce their products. Now, Intel is already making an action of its own.
Intel's Renewable Energy Effort To Reduce Carbon Emissions
According to CNET's latest report, the upcoming million-dollar budget will be used to enhance its facilities. This will help in lessening the average carbon emission of the company.
"We are committing to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across our operations by 2040," said Pat Gelsinger, the CEO of Intel.
He added that they will make efforts to cut the factories' greenhouse gas emissions while expanding their SoC operations.
Intel is still building two megafab factories in Germany and Ohio as of press time. Intel's latest renewable energy effort is important since it can also encourage other SoC developers to do the same.
Intel's Tons of Carbon Emission
Back in 2021, CNBC reported that the top global chip manufacturers were among the major companies that produce tons of carbon emissions.
Intel, TSMC, and Samsung are all included. Because of this, these tech firms have already promised that they'll make efforts to reduce the carbon footprint, which is already seen in Intel's million-dollar renewable energy budget.
Two years ago, the total greenhouse emission of Intel reached around 3 million metric tons. This is equivalent to the carbon emissions produced by around 640,000 cars yearly.
Previously, Intel's MITRE Engenuity partnership was confirmed.
On the other hand, Intel's Russia operations were suspended because of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
