On Tuesday, Apr. 12, Apple announced that it will expand the iPhone health app in 2022 and include additional tools such as sleep tracking and medication reminder.

According to Bloomberg, the tech giant will also add body temperature sensing to the Apple Watch in 2022, and it is still working on creating a blood pressure monitor.

The new medication tool would allow users to scan pill bottles and track when they took the medication. Not all features will be available at launch, as some will be added eventually in the coming months.

A body temperature sensor could help expand the Apple Watch's fertility tracking features.

The body temperature changes over the course of a woman's menstrual cycle, and the data can help predict when someone might get their period or the window when they are most likely to become pregnant.

The Oura smart ring is equipped with a temperature sensor that gives users information about their period, and it has been cleared by the Food and Drug Administration or FDA to feed data to the digital birth control Natural Cycles.

Apple pushed plans to add a blood pressure monitor to the Apple Watch in 2024, according to The Verge.

Blood pressure is a massive target for wearable companies and could make the devices more useful for tracking the user's cardiac health.

But the feature is very tricky, and experts say it still needs more refinement before performing well in the real world.

Currently, the tech used in smartwatches can only check whether the blood pressure is rising or falling and would need to be calibrated against a cuff to measure blood pressure accurately.

Apple aims to use the feature to flag high blood pressure for wearers, according to MacRumors, and is running trials on employees now.

Intermittent Fasting Feature on iPhone

Apple has been adding a lot of features to its iPhone health app for years, and the latest feature that the tech giant added FastBot.

FastBot is an intermittent fasting tracker that helps users control their weight and improve their overall health by helping them control when they eat.

Intermittent fasting is not a new dieting method. It is one of the most simple ones to follow. Users need to choose a window time during the day where they will eat and then fast during the hours outside the said window.

Tracking the times is where the new app comes in. All you need to do is open the app and inform the app that you want to fast and for how long you will do it. The app will also show you which options are available and what they offer when it comes to benefits.

Users can tie into the Apple Health app to gather weight and body fat measurements with the app installed.

The app will base on those figures to recommend ways to reduce both while displaying information on the different stages of fasting, including what the body is doing and when.

In May 2021, the iOS 15 update added a food tracking feature on Apple iPhones.

On Apr. 4, Apple iPhone users were given the feature to check their walking steadiness.
