After Samsung and Apple announced that they would be opening their doors to DIY repairs, it seems like Google didn't want to be left behind and will be doing the same thing for its Pixel phones. With that, Google is going to offer Pixel parts that can be purchased online for buyers that want to do the repairs themselves.
Google is Partnering with iFixit to Make Pixel Repairs Much Easier
According to the story by ArsTechnica, iFixit is signing a deal with Google in order to help make repairing the search giant's Pixel smartphones much easier. As agreed upon in the deal, genuine Google parts will be up for sale on iFixit.com.
The Google parts will be sold both individually and in kits some time before the year ends. Google has already published a blog post to announce the two companies' DIY repair collaboration.
Supported Models Include Pixel 2 to Pixel 6 Pro
As per Google, the upcoming parts will be available Pixel models from the Pixel 2 until the Pixel 6 Pro. For future models, the parts will automatically be available for buyers in the US, Canada, Australia, and EU countries where the search giant is selling their Pixel phones.
iFixit remains one of the most popular sites when it comes to catering to consumers looking to buy parts and instructions to fix their devices. The website will soon be selling screens, cameras, and other parts for the Pixel.
Company Also Offers Authorized Repair Deals
Google also pointed out that for those that would rather have someone else fix their phone, there will be authorized repair deals along with uBreakiFix in both Canada and the US, along with "similar partnerships" that support walk-ins for the UK, Germany, Canada, and Japan.
The deal between Google and iFixit came just shortly after Samsung had a similar agreement with iFixit. As per Samsung, they are also planning to offer smartphone parts online.

Samsung Provides Limited DIY Repairs for S20, S21, and Tab S7+
The partnership between iFixit and Samsung is set to start as early as the summer of this year but will only cover the S20, S21, as well as the Tab S7+ models for now. The company, however, announced that they are still planning to expand the program and will be doing so over time.
The partnership of Google and iFixit, on the other hand, will be doing everything dated back to the Pixel 2, which was initially released in 2017. ArsTechnica, noted that due to a lot of earlier Pixels being manufactured in partnership with LG or HTC, Google's move to provide support for the early models is surprising.
Even Apple is now embracing the growing DIY repair market and will also be selling parts in-house. As per Google, in order to extend both the life and usefulness of their customers' smartphones, it is important for them to improve repairability all in all.
