HBO Max is adding new features for Apple TV. These features include a scrollable Hero Banner, a My Stuff feature, and more expected to come soon.

HBO Max to Make Experience Better for Apple TV Users

The brand new version of the HBO Max app is expected to roll out to users of Apple TV along with promises for some major improvements. Variety gave a report stating an update is expected to roll out in the course of the next two weeks.

As per WarnerMedia, the upcoming app is expected to start rebuilding the company's next-generation platform. HBO Max promises new features, improved stability, and faster performance.

Minimal Changes to be Implemented Regarding the App's Visuals

According to the story by 9to5Mac, when it comes to the app's visuals, there aren't going to be a lot of chances. However, the report notes that there are small changes like a hero banner located at the top and a feature similar to Netflix wherein users will be able to skip credits to start the video right away.

Another notable change includes the "My Stuff" feature, which gives users more control over their "Continue Watching" and "My List" queues, along with support for sorting and editing the content.

Apple TV's HBO Max to be Rebuilt with You.i Tech

Apple TV's HBO Max has been rebuilt through the You when it comes to the back end.i technology which was initially acquired in December 2020 by Warner Media. You.i is a cross-platform streaming app development company used to rebuild HBO Max.

The company decided to switch its very own back-end technology for platforms and is expected to do the same for Apple TV. Apple TV is expected to go through the same transition regarding the new upgrade.

New Changes Expected to Make App More Stable and Reliable

The new changes for HBO Max include becoming more stable and reliable compared to the previous app's version. The HBO Max for Apple TV's previous version still used a codebase from HBO Now and HBO Go apps.

Sarah Lyons, the HBO Max EVP for global product management, said in an interview with The Streamable regarding their move. Lyons stated that the company wants to make HBO Max feel native to Apple users in the interview.

HBO Max EVP Wants to Respect Apple Community

Lyons indicated that their biggest concern was how Apple users get used to how the ecosystem works. The HBO Max EVP noted that they are trying to respect the Apple community and how their users are used to engaging, making it a bit different from other platforms.

Lyons said that they are trying to take a more tailored approach to each platform to make sure they address certain details that are important to users.
