The rumor mill has started talking about the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max having potentially 20% thinner display bezels. The 20% reduction was spotted in newly shared CAD renders.
CAD Renders of the iPhone 14 Pro Max
ShrimpApplePro initially shared the CAD renders on Twitter showing a design for the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro Max. According to the story by MacRumors, the illustrations and measurements line up with those of another source.
MacRumors connects the rumored renders with the illustrations and measurements from Max Weinback of 91Mobiles. Like other older renditions, the changes standing out include a centered pill and a hole-punch TrueDepth camera array facing the front.
iPhone 14 Pro Max vs iPhone 13 Pro Max
The front-facing True Depth camera array is in place of the notch, and a larger rear camera bump was spotted. When it comes to the other details, the render was described as very similar compared to both the iPhone 12 Pro as well as the iPhone 13 Pro.
The renders come with different measurements for the device's different aspects. The bezels of the iPhone 14 Pro Max are expected to be 1.95mm thick, which is a reduction compared to the 2.42mm bezels of the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
Bezel Size Reduction Could Add Space Elsewhere
MacRumors notes that a potential reason for the bezel size reduction could be for additional space to be added between the top bezel of the device as well as the top of the hole-punch cutouts and new pill.
With the bezel reductions, the top of the cutouts will measure 2.29mm below the display's top bezel. To add, MacRumors noted that users held a debate in 2021 regarding whether or not there was a difference when it comes to the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13's bezels sizes.
Twitter iPhone 13 Compared to iPhone 12 Bezels
Quinn Nelson took measurements and uploaded them to Twitter, suggesting that the iPhone 13's bezels are slightly larger than the iPhone 12. As per MacRumors, this would be something not unheard of for Apple.

Bezel Reduction Won't Affect Screen Size
There were instances wherein the Cupertino giant changed the total bezel thickness even on certain devices that already have the "same display sizes." MacRumors notes that the 20% reduction on the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro Max will most likely be more noticeable when compared to the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13.
It is also important to note that the measurements won't include the thickness of the 1.15mm stainless steel frame around the display. The bezel reduction for the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro Max could be too small to change the marked 6.7-inch screen size despite the actual display area being bigger in real life.
