In 2019, WhatsApp limited the number of messages that its users in Brazil can forward to others at once. Now, the messaging app is planning to launch the feature globally.
The feature is currently in beta, but it will be included in the app's future update.
WhatsApp to Limit Messages Sent to Users
According to WABetaInfo, the limit feature is currently available with the beta version 22.7.0.76 of WhatsApp for iOS. The app will start limiting the ability to forward the forwarded messages to prevent misinformation and spam.
As of now, the feature will only apply to forwarded messages. If you are the owner of the message, you will be able to send it to all WhatsApp users that you want.
With the limitation, the users will only be able to forward one forwarded message at a time. The feature can also differentiate messages from those that were forwarded once and those that were already forwarded multiple times.
The former can be shared with up to five chats, while the later can only be forwarded to a chat once.
Aside from that, 9to5Google was able to bring more information about the future WhatsApp Communities feature. The app plans to replace the camera tab with a "Communities" one.
The Communities function can bring related groups together. Any community that a user creates or gets added will pop up in the said feature.
WhatsApp Communities will be the best place where group admins will have more control over groups on the messaging app.
Last year, it was announced that it would be like a group chat at the moment, so it is not similar to a social network. It is still a private place between users protected by end-to-end encryption.
Other Upcoming WhatsApp Features
Aside from the limit, WhatsApp will also launch other features in the coming weeks. According to Mint, WhatsApp upgraded its voice message features on Mar. 31.
Users will now be able to play the voice messages at different speeds. WhatsApp has also allowed users to preview the voice messages before sending them.
The app now has "Out of Chat Playback." This lets you listen to a voice message outside of the chat so you can multitask, or you can read and respond to other messages.
The "Pause/Resume Recording" lets you pause the recording while making it and resume when you are ready. It comes in handy when you are interrupted or need to prepare what you will say.
The "Waveform Visualization" will visually represent the sound of the voice message to help follow the recording. The "Draft Preview" lets you listen to your voice messages before you send them.
The "Remember Playback" lets you pick up where you left off when you return to the app's chat, so you begin re-recording your voice message.
The "Fast Playback on Forwarded Messages" lets you play the voice messages at different speeds so you can listen to them faster. This can be used on both regular and forwarded messages.
WhatsApp stated that voice messages have made it fast and easy for users to have more expressive conversations. It allows them to show emotion through voice, which is something that they can't do over text.
In August 2021, WhatsApp introduced the "View Once" feature for its photos.
In December 2021, WhatsApp rolled out a feature that lets users identify businesses nearby.
