On Apr. 1, Ford announced that it was recalling almost 400,000 trucks. This is after it was discovered that a software error caused the integrated trailer braking system to malfunction, thus causing it not to apply a trailer's brake.
Ford Recalled Trucks
The recall affects 2021 and 2022 Ford truck models, including the Super Duty models, Ford Maverick, F-150, Lincoln Navigator, and Expedition. Since the issue is software-related, the fix is very simple, the Ford dealer will apply a software update, according to ABC News.
Ford will begin notifying the owner of affected models by mail on or around Apr. 18. If you believe this recall covers your truck or have questions, contact Ford's customer service department at 1-866-436-7332 and reference recall number 22S17.
Last week, Ford issued a recall covering more than 737,000 vehicles to fix oil leaks. The oil leak recall included 2020 through 2022 Ford Escape SUV and the 2021 and 2022 Bronco Sport SUV with 1.5-Liter engines.
The housing of the SUV can crack, and the oil can leak onto engine parts, which is considered a fire hazard, according to Reuters.
The dealers will replace the housing of the vehicle if needed, and owners of the affected SUVs will be notified starting Apr. 18.
General Motors Recalls SUVs
General Motors recalls almost 682,000 compact SUVs because the windshield wipers can fail. The recall covers the GMC Terrain and Chevrolet Equinox from the 2014 and 2015 model years.
The ball joints in the wiper module can rust, and it can cause one or both wipers to fail, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect the module and replace or repair it if needed. The owners will be notified by letter beginning May 2.
Ford SUV Recalled Due to Backup Camera
Ford issued a recall for the 2021 and 2022 Ford Edge SUV to fix a software issue with the vehicle's backup camera. Drivers may see a blurred image, no image, or sometimes a "camera not available" error message. More than 78,000 vehicles are affected.
The owner will choose to bring their vehicles to a Ford dealership for a software update or download and install an over-the-air or OTA software update that will be sent straight to the vehicle.
According to Consumer Reports, both options are free of charge, and OTA updates are becoming more common as new vehicles increasingly feature built-in wireless connections. Aside from Ford, Tesla, GM, and Mercedes-Benz have also used over-the-air updates to address product recalls.
In documents that were provided to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Ford said that there had been no crashes or injuries related to the issue.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released the summary of the recall:
The vehicles recalled are Ford Edge SUVs manufactured between August 14, 2020 and Feb. 7. The issue is a software bug that blurs the backup camera image or makes the camera image unavailable.
The fix is that Ford issued a software update that can be downloaded at home or at the dealership without any charge. Ford will contact the owners of the affected vehicles by mail starting Apr. 15. Owners may also contact Ford at 866-436-7332.
The NHTSA campaign number of 22V151 and Ford's own number for this recall is 22S14.
