Amazon's Alexa is getting a new feature that will notify you of any item in your shopping cart that is about to go on sale in 24 hours.
The e-commerce giant made the announcement on Mar. 31, and added that aside from notifying you, it will also order the item that you want on your behalf as soon as it goes on sale. The feature will also work with items that you have marked "saved for later."
The new feature is now available for Amazon Prime subscribers in the United States, and the feature is rolled out to all newer-generation Echo smart speakers.
Amazon Alexa to Get New Feature
Users can enable the new feature in the Alexa app by navigating to the Amazon shopping section from the notifications settings and choosing shopping recommendations, according to TechCrunch.
When the feature is enabled, the Amazon Echo will notify you and turn yellow when an item that you want goes on sale. You can also ask Alexa to remind you about the discount as soon as it goes live.
You can also ask Alexa to purchase the item for you if you want to. Alex will use the default payment information and delivery address in your Amazon account so it can process the payment.
Amazon stated that you won't be charged until the order is complete. Once you place an order, you will get a notification through the Amazon app together with an email confirmation with the order details.
Amazon said that the new feature is created to make the user's daily tasks more convenient and will complement Alexa's existing shopping tools, like its Reorder Notifications feature, which notifies you when you may be running low on your essentials that are frequently bought from Amazon.
The e-commerce company said in a blog post about the announcement that their vision is to make every aspect of their shopping journey simpler and more convenient, and to help users discover savings and save time along the way.
Amazon added that it will continue innovating in this space and to deliver even more seamless ways for customers to shop with Amazon Alexa.
The launch of the new feature comes as reports have indicated that consumers are not adopting voice-based shopping as fast as expected.
While consumers have been happy to bring smart speakers into their homes, they continue to use them more frequently for simple commands, like getting information and saying commands, not for making purchases.
However, it does not seem like Amazon is ready to give up on trying to make voice-based shopping more popular with the launch of this new feature while hinting towards more features in the future.
