Google is scheduled to add a new highly cited label to search results often sourced by other publications.

According to the announcement made by the search giant, anything from local news stories, announcements, stories, and press releases will be eligible for the new label being added to the preview image of the search result, as long as other websites are linking to it.

More information is also being added to the search result's fast-evolving topics and "About This Result" notices.

Google to Add Highly Cited

The search giant's goal is that the new highly cited feature will help highlight original reporting, including important context stripped out when a story is spread around.

But it should also be helpful to find press releases, where you can get information straight from the companies themselves.

Google stated that it hopes the label will help the readers find the most relevant and most helpful information for a news story, according to The Verge.

Google also added that the label will launch soon in the United States on mobile for English-speaking users and will begin appearing globally in the next few weeks.

Aside from the highly cited label, Google is also expanding its attempts to help users evaluate the results that they are being shown.

The notice that it shows on the searches linked to fast-evolving topics will now remind users to check whether a source is trusted. It will also remind users to come back later when more reliable information is added, according to Axios.

The change is scheduled to launch on Mar. 31 for English searches in the United States. In the next few weeks, it is also rolling out improvements to its "About This Result" feature announced in 2021, which offers more context about each website in search results.

Reducing Irrelevant Search Results

According to Search Engine Lands, Google Search has successfully reduced the irrelevant results shown in the search results by more than 50% in the last seven years. Google also stated that it had seen a more than 60^ increase in natural language queries.

Google is constantly making changes in the search results. In 2021, the search giant said that it made more than 5,000 improvements to search and ran more than 800,000 experiments. For comparison, in 2020, Google revealed it made 4,887 changes to the search results.

Google's changes are all aimed at improving search relevancy and quality. The search giant said that the 50% decrease in irrelevant search results over the past seven years is measured based on internal metrics based on quality rater data.

The other metric, which is the natural language queries, has increased 60% in the Google search box. The search giant said that they have also seen people's search queries evolve.

Since 2015, Google has seen a more than 60% increase in natural language queries in search.

If you write your content exactly like how people write and speak, then you will do well in the search results. This means that people can find what they need faster and easier and use language closer to the way that people normally write and speak.

In 2021, Google Search added a notice in the results with an update showing if the results came from reliable sources.

Last week, Google changed the way that product reviews show up in the results.
