Motorola Snatches 3rd Spot in Smartphone Sales in the US—Lagging Behind Apple, Samsung

Motorola is now the third-largest smartphone maker in the United States or the US, at least in terms of sales in 2021, but it still lags way behind other giant brands, such as Apple and Samsung.

Motorola 3rd Largest Smartphone Brand in the US

A recent report from the analysis firm, Counterpoint Research, reveals the phone sales of Motorola in the US, as well as the performance of other top smartphone brands in the region.

according to a news story by XDA Developers. Counterpoint Research primarily focuses on the sales trends of smartphones, as well as other tech products.

The recent data from the analyst firm showed that Motorola impressively more than doubled its sales in the US last year.

To be more precise, the phone maker boasted a 131% growth from last year, which, in turn, helped Motorola snatch the third spot in US smartphone sales.

Previously, another South Korean phone maker, LG, has been sitting in third place in smartphone sales for a couple of years already. However, the Korea-based manufacturer has already shut down its mobile phone business in the second quarter of 2021.

That said, during the same year, Motorola has massively increased its market share in the country.

XDA Developers cited the growth of Motorola to the exit of LG, saying that the budget devices of the former ended up filling the gap of the latter as soon as it stopped selling phones.

On top of that, it is worth noting that Motorola also debuted its new set of smartphones in 2021, such as its Moto G, E, and One series.

Not to mention that the phone maker also released the next-generation Motorola Edge in the same year, wherein it sported an ultra-smooth 144Hz display.

Apple and Samsung Smartphone Sales

Meanwhile, both Apple and Samsung remained in their first and second spot, respectively, last year. The iPhone maker continues its sales growth, while Samsung slightly increased from 2020.

Like Motorola, Samsung also released budget smartphones under its A series. What's more, the South Korean phone maker also debuted its foldable smartphones, the all-new Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 in 2021.
