EA Sports reportedly renamed its FIFA game after its heated public battle, making 'FIFA 23' the last gaming title carrying the name of the football association.
EA's 'FIFA' Game Renamed?
As per a news story by ArsTechnica, EA Sports previously said on its official blog post that it is looking into renaming its "global EA Sports soccer games."
It apparently comes as the organization, FIFA, is reportedly asking for a whopping $2.5 billion for its naming rights that would last for the next ten years.
That said, the CEO of EA, Andrew Wilson, himself said that he already wants to end the partnership with FIFA, according to a recent report by Comicbook.com
However, this time around, Giant Bomb reporter Jeff Grubb claimed that the game publisher has a new name for its "FIFA" gaming title.
EA Sports Football Club
Grubb said during his GrubbSnax! podcast that EA has decided to carry a new name for its soccer game, the "EA Sports FC."
The reporter and host claimed that "EA Sports Football Club or EA Sports FC" is the new name that the game publisher is eyeing as the replacement for its "FIFA" series.
It is worth noting that the game publisher of the "FIFA" games has already filed for the trademark of its alleged name replacement, suggesting that EA is already moving forward on its soccer game.
However, it is to point out that the game developer has yet to confirm such a name replacement.
FIFA's Video Game Trademark
Meanwhile, the FIFA organization also filed its own trademark just recently, shortly after Grubb revealed that EA has already found its soccer game name replacement.
In the same podcast, the reporter also disclosed that FIFA has recently updated its internal trademarks that have to do with video games.
The alleged move of FIFA basically suggests that the organization is also moving forward from its partnership with EA by developing a new soccer game.
It is not clear, however, if FIFA is going to work on it in-house or it will continue to work with another publisher similar to its current partnership with EA.
That said, as per a separate report by Comicbook.com, there seems to be a possibility that we're going to see two new soccer games in the future, a "FIFA" and an "EA Sports FC."
But do note to take all of this with a grain of salt as both EA and FIFA have yet to confirm that they are breaking up. So, there is still a chance that the two would end up continuing their agreement.
