Nintendo explains why its first-ever 3D "Kirby" gaming title, in the flesh of the upcoming "Kirby and the Forgotten Land," took about two-decade to create.
Nintendo's 3D 'Kirby' Game: 'Kirby and the Forgotten Land'
As per a news story by Slash Gear, the first-ever 3D title from the massive "Kirby" franchise, "Kirby and the Forgotten Land," is releasing on Nintendo Switch consoles on March 25.
The debut of the upcoming "Kirby" gaming title on Switch is a monumental feat for the franchise as it would be the first time that its players will get to experience the adventure in full 3D.
There have been countless "Kirby" games in the past two decades, but as it turns out it is the first instance that Nintendo is releasing a 3D game under the massive franchise.
That said, the Nintendo of Australia brought the developers of the upcoming "Kirby and the Forgotten Land," including the Director of HAL Laboratory, Tatsuya Kamiyama, and the Associate Producer, Kei Ninomiya.
Not to mention that both the General Director, Shinya Kumazaki, and the Level Design Director, Yuki Endo, also joined the interview.
Although there were tons of stuff that were discussed in the four-part interview hosted by the Nintendo of Australia, one that truly stands out was about the introduction of the 3D world in the "Kirby" series.
Nintendo Explains Why a 3D 'Kirby' Game Took Years to Create
According to a recent report by VideoGamesChronicle, the lead general director of the new "Kirby" game, Kumazaki, explained in the interview why it took both HAL and Nintendo years before releasing the first 3D title.
Kumazaki said that "there was a period of time where certain game concepts simply refused to come together." It is worth noting that the general director of the new "Kirby" gaming title has been working in the game franchise for more than two decades already.
On top of that, Nintendo also included a previous interview of a former producer of the game and the president of HAL and Nintendo to further explain why it took until now to have a 3D "Kirby" game.
The former boss of both Nintendo and Hal, Satoru Iwata, said that the devs of the game have already created a 3D "Kirby" game, which belongs to the three titles that were never released.
Meanwhile, the producer back then, Shigefumi Kawase, stated that it "was an experiment with extremely challenging gameplay that placed Kirby in 3D space."
However, as it turns out the game did not successfully make it to its players.
