According to a recent report by Mashable, the rebranded Meta company has added two new options for the user's news feed, namely Following and Favorites. The social media giant announced on Wednesday, via press release that the latter will allow you to see the most recent posts from the user accounts that you have selected.

With regards to the Following feature, it's self-explanatory in a way that you can see here are posts from people that you have followed. It should be noted that there's a huge difference between it and the home feed. Instagram boss Adam Mosseri backed this up by writing that the latter consists of business ads and other related posts.

The Catch Behind Instagram's Chronological Feed

While it sounds promising that this long-gone feature is gracing the Instagram site once again, the company noted some limitations that it holds.

Regardless of your preference, even if you're a starting social media user, the algorithmic Home Feed will be default by nature in the app.

To clarify it further, the feature is not capable of setting defaults, as Twitter users confirmed previously. According to Mashable, some people knew that this was a "sticking point" for the majority of social media users.

Regarding these changes, a spokesperson from Meta gave confirmation about the issue. The person responded that users will not be able to customize the default setting at this very moment.

There's another unsettling drawback that you need to hear besides the inability to customize the default setting. As Meta said in its release, the typical Instagram feed will be filled with a mishmash of clips and images from the people you followed. This also includes their posts and other related stuff.

The tech titan also added that it would include more recommendations that will be aligned to the users' interest in their feeds. To easily catch up with the updated posts from people you have followed, Favorites and Following are the answers for that.

In short, expect that your feeds will be messier than the usual setting. In the meantime, it will be clogged by the abundant posts. If you're the type of person who wants to see fewer posts on your feed, then this change is not for you.

Meanwhile, Tech Times reported that a new Instagram feature that will allow you to edit your profile grid is coming soon on the platform.
