'Safest' Plane in the World Crashes, Carrying 132 People: The Boeing 737-800 from China Eastern Airlines

A China Eastern Airlines plane which was once considered the safest plane in the world crashed while carrying 132 people. Aviation experts reported the news, saying that the plane crashed in the afternoon of March 21.

China Eastern Airlines' Boeing 737-800 Model Suddenly Crashed with 132 People Onboard

The China Eastern Airlines' Boeing 737-800 model was flying from Kunming to Guangzhou in China while carrying 132 people. Out of nowhere, the plane "suddenly plunged into a hillside" located somewhere in south China.

According to the story by Euronews Travel, the rescuers have not found survivors yet as of press time. A major investigation was immediately launched by the president of China in order to find out what caused the crash.

The plane reportedly suddenly stopped "sending any flight information after drop-ping a total of 26,000 feet in altitude" in a span of just three minutes.

Aviation Experts Remain Puzzled Due to the Jet Being Less than Seven Years Old

As of writing, however, all of the Boeing 737-800s within the fleet of China Eastern are now grounded. The jet was reportedly not even seven years old yet. It is now baffling aviation experts as to why it suddenly crashed.

AirSafe, an aviation safety website, gave calculations of the plane models' crash rate. According to the website, the plane only had a 0.24 rate of crashing per million flights.

Boeing 737-800 Achieved Excellent Safety Record Since the 1990s

Hassan Shahidi, the CEO of the Flight Safety Foundation, gave a statement to Euronews Travel, saying that the plane's model has had an "excellent safety record since the 1990s." To add, the CEO noted that thousands of Boeing 737-800 fleets all around the world.

The CEO also said that looking for the black box or the flight data recorder, and hearing the last air traffic control communications from the plane's crew will be very important when it comes to finding out what happened to the plane.

123 Passengers and Nine Crew Members Onboard

According to an article by Al Jazeera, nine crew members and 123 passengers were all onboard the plane that crashed on March 21. Per the publication, staff are assisting the loved ones of the plane victims at the Guangzhou airport.

Recorded data shows that 2010 was the last time that the country ever experienced a fatal plane crash. During that crash, 44 people lost their lives on their way to the Yichun Airport.

No Survivors Found After More than a Day Since the Plane Crash

Liu He, the Vice Premier, was dispatched to the area in order to oversee what was happening.

According to state media, he is responsible for overseeing the rescuing and investigating work that is being done to find out what happened to the plane and if there are any survivors.

To reiterate, no survivors have been found within the past two days since the actual crash happened.
