In what looks almost like a scene out of Final Destination, a man survived a crash that left him pinned between 2 semi's in a 26 car pile-up in Baker City, Oregon. Aclose look at some photos taken on the scene show an eerie face of the Grim Reaper in the scratches and dents in one of the wreckage. Creepy.
The accident involved three separate collisions and more than 100 people. However, only 12 were injured and there were no fatalities in what many are calling a miracle.
According to reports, the massive pile-up was caused by black ice and low visibility.
The man who survived within inches of his life was 28-year old father, Kaleb Whitby. who was pinned between the trucks for half an hour. He walked away needing only two Band-aids for his finger, and ice for his head.
The driver of one of the trucks that struck Whitby was almost sure he had killed him when they collided because his Chevy Silverado pickup looked almost like crushed soda can. But when he approched Whitby, he was shaken, but otherwise all right.
"I see this head and he's just like, starts speaking. It's just this guy and he says, 'I'm okay, I just can't get out.' He was just so calm that I couldn't believe it. I was like, 'Are you sure you're totally okay? Your legs aren't crushed and your knees are all right? He kept saying he was fine.,'" said the driver, Sergi Karplyuk.
Karplyuk also happened to take a video and photos of Whitby while he was still in the car and some keen-eyed observers noticed the spooky skull face of the Grim Reaper on the left side of the crash.
Of course, it must have been just a chance of light and shadow on the scratches and dents on the vehicle. Still, it is an ominous reminder for Whitby on just how close he came to losing his life in that crash.
"Thank God that I'm still alive. Now I've got to go figure out why," Whitby said.
