Walmart Xbox Series X Restock: Is Walmart+ Required?

The Xbox Series X , similar to the PS5 , has been extremely difficult to purchase ever since its launch over a year ago.

Gamers will now have another chance to get their hands on the console as Walmart has a new restock. Luckily, buyers do not need to have the premium Walmart+ membership to get one.

In what looks like to be a growing trend, most online retailers are now prioritizing only those that have premium memberships with them for certain rare items to purchase like the PS5 restock or the Xbox Series X restock.

As recently spotted by Xbox Series X Stock Alerts on Twitter, Walmart came out with a new Xbox Series X restock and this time, no premium membership is required.

It is important to note that although buyers will be able given a chance to purchase the Xbox Series X, it might take a while before they ship out. As one account details it, they were able to place an order and will be receiving the console on April 7.

Global Chip Shortage

Despite launching back in late 2020, Microsoft's newest console has still seen the same fate as the Xbox Series X due to three major reasons. The first and most critical of them is the global chip shortage, which has affected a wide range of products like consoles, GPUs, and even cars.

Luckily, unlike GPUs, the Xbox Series X did not directly raise prices but rather decided to put stock up for grabs in batches. This, however, is still unfortunate to the average buyer due to the second reason that makes the Xbox Series X console is difficult to buy.

Why the Xbox Series X Restock is Hard to Buy

Another reason why the Xbox Series X restock is hard to come by is due to scalpers taking advantage of scarcity to purchase the consoles for selling at much higher prices. Although prices have gone down from a whopping 3x, scalper prices still remain a large markup from the product's original price.

The third reason why the Xbox Series X restock is hard to get is due to the pandemic. This is because the console was not massively launched in-store but rather online. Due to its online launch, scalpers have been using bots to buy the console, leaving the regular buyers with little to no room to purchase the console.

An article by TechRepublic has detailed how scalpers were using bots in order to take advantage of the limited supply. This has allowed them to then resell the console at higher prices.

In fact, the bots were even loaded with "CAPTCHA-solving solutions" in order to place orders just like a regular human.
