Matter smart home, which is intended to connect smart home devices from brands such as Google, Apple, Samsung, GE, and Comcast, has been delayed until mid-2022.
Matter's Launch Delayed
The delay comes as the Connectivity Standards Alliance, which is tasked with developing Matter, needs more time to finalize the smart home's software development kit to let companies integrate with the platform, according to CNET.
When fully operational, Matter will allow smart home devices from Google, Apple, Comcast, Samsung, GE, and other tech companies to work together in a single, smart home ecosystem.
Using Matter smart home, a Google Nest devices, an Amazon Echo speaker, and GE smart lightbulbs could all be controlled through the Google Home app, according to MacRumors.

Matter has been delayed in the past. It was first set to launch in 2020, but it was pushed back several times before the latest delay, which pushed its arrival back from the summer.
In 2022, the alliance will conduct a specification validation event, which will give data necessary for the first device certifications. It will include 130 devices from 50 tech companies.
After the launch this year, devices will be the process for Matter certification, according to 9to5Google.
Despite the several delays, the Connectivity Standards Alliance says member companies are all-in, the finish line is in sight, and they are reaching the milestone with confidence, quality, and massive support.
