iRobot Roomba vacuums introduce Apple Siri support, which adds to its previous Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa voice commands support.
On top of that, the new software update of iRobot for Roomba vacuums also comes with new notable features.
iRobot Roomba Siri Support
As per a news story by The Verge, iRobot announced that it is adding Siri support for all of its smart Roomba vacuums and mops, allowing the integration of the voice assistant of Apple.
The Siri voice command support for Roomba vacuums performs various basic activities, such as stop, start, pause, and send home and resume.
Unlike other voice assistants, namely Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, the support for Apple Siri have yet to extend to room-specific commands for cleaning.
However, the Director of Product Management of iRobot, Ryan Schneider, himself told The Verge in the same report that they will be including more commands to its Siri voice command support in the future.
But for the meantime, the Siri commands are limited to basic stuff like starting and pausing the Roomba vacuums.
Siri's voice command support for the Roomba vacuums works straight from the iRobot Home app. With that, users are no longer required to use the Shortcuts app of Apple to make it work.
As such, users of Roomba vacuums could easily say commands like "Hey Siri, clean everywhere," and their smart cleaning device will follow it, according to a recent report by Apple Insider.
The Siri support for the iRobot Roomba vacuums debuts in its new software update, known as the iRobot Genius 4.0 Home Intelligence, which also brings tons of new functionalities to the smart device.
iRobot Roomba New Features
Aside from the additional voice assistant support, the new software update of Roomba also brings room-specific preferences for cleaning.
For instance, users could specifically ask the smart vacuum to do a single pass for the empty guest bedroom.
On the other hand, they could also ask it to perform two passes on the kitchen, which only makes sense as it typically houses more clutter and dirt.
What's more, the Genius 4.0 update of iRobot also introduces new smart functionality that allows its robot vacuums or mops to detect some obstructions like clothing to avoid them while cleaning the floorings.
Plus, there is also a new Do Not Disturb mode and additional options like Pet or Child lock to ensure their safety from the smart cleaning device.
