After more than a year since the launch of Sony's latest console, a lot of buyers have still been struggling to purchase it. With that, PS Direct has a new batch of PS5 restock that will be available within a limited timeframe.
New PS5 Restock Online: March 17
According to a tweet by PlayStation 5 - PS5 Restock News, a new batch of restocks is set to hit PS Direct on March 17 starting at 11 a.m. PT or 2 p.m. ET.
It should be noted that the post also indicated that the restock will only be available through during the timeframe of 11 a.m. to p.m. PT.
The PS5 restock Twitter account shared a picture that also included the very important words "or while supplies last" and "subject to availability." This means that despite there being a timeframe, this is still not a guarantee that buyers will be able to get the restock.
Caution: New Restock is an 'Invite Only' Event
Although this sounds like good news, there are some within the thread that also reminded that the restock was an "Invite Only" purchase. This means that the only people who have receieved an invity from Sony can try to participate in the restock.
When asked how one would get an invite, a certain Twitter account called Space Gjost -Coast 2 Coast- noted that buyers should first sign up in order to get a chance to be invited. The account also revealed that only those who are "lucky" get the invite, stating that they themselves have not received one yet.
How to Increase Chances to Purchase the PS5 Restock
Another account, however, revealed that there is a technique that can be used in order to get an invite to purchase the PS5 restock. This was through making more accounts in order to increase their chances.
According to J.W on Twitter, they were able to get "3 invites over 3 different accounts over a 3 month period," signaling that an increased number of email accounts would result in an increased chances to get invited to a PS5 restock.

How the Semiconductor Shortage and Scalpers Have Made It Harder for Buyers
There have been multiple reasons as to why the PS5 restock, despite launching more than a year ago, has remained extremely difficult to purchase. The most aggressive reason on the list is due to the global chip shortage.
Since the supply of semiconductors has been disrupted, manufacturers have not been able to keep up with the demand. This has caused them to release restocks in waves.
Aside from the PlayStation 5, this can also be seen with the Xbox Series X restock along with most GPUs.
Another factor that has made in difficult for buyers in the ongoing pandemic. Because of it, in-store sales have decreased and most of the time, the PS5 restock is sold online, which makes it it vulnerable to scalpers.
As seen in an article by TechRepublic, the use of scalper bots automatically buys out any available PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles and allows the scalper to resell them at marked up prices.
