All NASA James Webb Mirrors Focus on a Star; New Image Exceeds Experts' Expectations

All NASA James Webb Space Telescope's mirrors were successfully focused at a star, capturing a new stunning image that exceeds the expectations of many space experts.

Right now, JWST is the most advanced space telescope of the National Aeronautics Space Agency. But, with the newest captured image of a star called 2MASS J17554042+655127, experts said that the performance of JWST exceeded their expectations.

"We've actually done a very detailed analysis of the images we're getting, and, so far, what we're finding is that the performance is as good if not better than our most optimistic prediction," said the NASA engineer, Lee Feinberg, via BCC News.

According to CNN World's latest report, the newly captured image of the James Webb Space Telescope stunned many space experts. This is because JWST showed how sensitive its mirrors are.

Thanks to the sensitivity of all James Webb Space Telescope's mirrors (a total of 18 mirror segments), the new image revealed by NASA was able to detail even the individual galaxies and stars behind the 2MASS J17554042+655127.

What's astonishing about this new star image is being a test image. This means that the newly released photo is not the final output.

Right now, NASA is expected to release the first collection of space images of JWST around June. But, this will still depend if certain issues are encountered.

JWST's New Star Image

Jane Rigby, the current operations project scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, described the image as "sharp and crisp."

Rigby added that the giant space telescope was able to achieve this since its mirrors can capture images that are not visible to the human eye.

This is comparable to the capability of NASA Hubble Space Telescope but on a more advanced level.

In other news, Russia calms Roscosmos ISS abandonment rumors by confirming the return of an American astronaut. Meanwhile, Mark Vande Hei is now the astronaut that has the longest time on the International Space Station.
