March 16 is 'No Selfies Day' | Here's How to Take Part in this Celebration

Taking a selfie photo has become a norm for young individuals who want to appreciate their overall well-being. In some instances, this is their way to express their feelings or celebrate an important event in their life.

According to the Child Mind Institute, while it's good for self-appreciation, taking selfies has some dark sides. In the long run, it only became a competition in the context of perfection. With that, several photo-enhancing features have arrived including filters and various retouches.

This March 16, we celebrate this special day as "No Selfies" Day. Amid the rise of popular technologies around us, everything has become much easier with a single click of a camera.

If you want to take part in this National day, here's what you need to know.

Regarding the history of the "No Selfies Day," National Today wrote that the founder of this event remains unknown at this moment. However, there's an interesting fact about this day.

March 16 turns out to be the birthday of Philippe Kahn, the inventor behind the camera in mobile phones. It appears to be a mere coincidence for others.

As for its significance, people used to celebrate this so they could remind themselves that it's okay not to take a selfie for a day. Specifically, this is for people who have a deep obsession with taking selfies.

In the same post, research showed that on average, a woman spends 104 minutes every week just taking selfies. Experts believe that this activity can cause psychological damage to the behavior of a person.

With social media's intervention, it only gets worse since the world sees this trend as a competition rather than self-appreciation. People used to do it just for the sake of getting recognition and praise in the form of likes, shares, and more.

According to studies, there's a negative impact that taking a selfie can cause on people. As opposed to receiving praises from other people, some instead receive distasteful comments and remarks.
