Steam on Chrome OS was announced during the Google for Games Developer Summit 2022, saying that it is available "right now," but it turns out to be premature.
Steam on Chrome OS Announced
As per a news story by The Verge, Google has officially announced that Steam is coming to ChromeOS, allowing a select number of users to test it out first.
The product director for games of Google, Greg Hartell, himself said during the Google for Games Developer Summit that the "Steam alpha just launched" for some Chromebooks.
The brief mention of Stream on Chrome OS comes after more evidence suggests that Google is already working on the integration of the gaming platform on Chromebooks.
ChromeOS is more popularly known as a productivity software for Chromebook, which made it widely used in offices and by students as it does tons of stuff like browsing the web or sending emails.
However, ChromeOS is not known as a gaming device, but Google is about to change that after it announced way back in Jan. 2020 that it will be introducing Steam support for its desktop operating system.
Since then, though, Google has yet to release more information regarding the Steam support on ChromeOS.
Despite that, there have been hints that the search engine giant is actually quietly working on the much-awaited Steam support, which have been unraveled from the codes of the ChromeOS.

Steam on Chrome OS Launch Premature?
This time around, according to a recent report by Android Central, the Gaming on Chrome OS part of the developer summit casually revealed that Steam support "just launched."
It is worth noting, though, that the said announcement of the Steam on Chrome OS launch is, in fact, premature.
The PR team of Google reportedly confirmed to Android Central that the Steam support is actually not yet available on Chromebooks, contrary to the announcement during the summit.
The Google product director for games said during his keynote speech that the Steam alpha is already available for some Chromebooks.
On the other hand, the Google PR team is now saying that it has yet to be released soon.
Gaming Chromebooks?
Elsewhere, there have been rumors and predictions that Steam support on ChromeOS is releasing along with gaming-focused Chromebooks.
However, it is to note that the recent developers' summit event did not mention anything about the latter.
