One problem other handheld devices like the Nintendo Switch has is that it lacks support for Discord. This problem seems to be one that the Valve Steam Deck does not have.
In fact, Valve is planning not to make this mistake with an easy to follow step-by-step process to run Discord on the background.
Valve Steam Deck Supports Discord and Other Background Music Apps
According to the story by VentureBeat, although there are some consoles that either give limited support for Discord or no support at all, Valve's Steam Deck PC will allow users to use the full version of the app.
The handheld console will allow users to join the same text chats and voice channels that users usually join both on the mobile or desktop version of Discord.
It should be noted that while Discord cannot be found on the Steam store, it instead can be installed through the Linux version in desktop mode.
SteamOS Environment Optimized by Valve
Users will then be able to run Discord in the background of the device's SteamOS while playing whatever game they chose to play.
In addition, this feature is not limited to just Discord. In fact, other background music apps like Spotify and YouTube Music can run in the background as well.
Both programs are capable of running simultaneously without running into any issues. This is because of Valve's optimizations when it comes to their very own SteamOS environment.
How to Get Discord on the Valve Steam Deck
In order to run apps like Discord, users will have to push the power button down until they see a menu pop up. Once a menu pops up, click on the "Switch to desktop" option.
Once in desktop mode, users will simply have to click on the Discover store icon located on the taskbar. Users will them have to search for Spotify, Discord, or whichever apps users would want to use with the SteamOS.
Once App is Installed, Here's How to Run It
When the app is finally added, users can simply install the programs they want and find them in the start menu. After that, users must log in while they are still in desktop mode.
Once users are logged in, they will then have to open Steam and simply click on the "+" button located on the bottom left. The next step is to choose the "add non-steam game" option.
Once done, users can finally select Discord or any other app and simply add them.
