"If passed, this bill could force Tesla to close its existing locations in Oklahoma AND prevent Tesla from shipping cars to anyone in the state," said the automaker.

As of the moment, some states in the U.S. still don't allow automakers and EV developers, such as Tesla, to directly sell their cars to consumers.

Tesla Oklahoma Service Centers, Stores To Shut Down?

According to Electrek's latest report, some states ban direct car selling because of several reasons. One of these is that many investors spend huge amounts of money to provide sales or workforce services for automakers.

This means that many carmakers work with other third-party companies to sell their vehicles. On the other hand, banning direct sales also prevent a monopoly on car sales.

However, Tesla shared some issues that may arise if ever the new bill banning direct car sales is completely approved in Oklahoma.

The giant EV maker said that it can close service centers in the area. This will force Tesla consumers to travel outside Oklahoma just to get the necessary fixes and other services for their electric cars.

Why does Tesla Prefer Selling Its Own EVs?

Fortune recently provided several reasons why Tesla insists on selling its own zero-emission vehicles. Here are some of them:

  • Tesla has no inventory for its sold EVs since it allows its consumers to customize their electric cars.
  • Tesla focuses on education customers instead of offering the cheapest options. The automaker's customer representatives usually spend hours just to explain how people can charge their EVs and other details.
  • Tesla stores are usually inside malls, city centers, and other places that have a lot of foot traffic.

In other news, the first refreshed Tesla Model S Plaid was recently showcased, revealing its new LED lights and charging ports. Meanwhile, a new Tesla Cybertruck prototype was identified.
