Johnson & Johnson's Vision Care division announced that it got its FDA approval for its medicated eye contacts that will help treat allergic reactions and itchy eyes on people who wear the lens. The eye contacts contain an antihistamine that will help alleviate an allergic response for specific people who wear contact lenses.

Some people that do not want to wear glasses are torn in wearing contact lenses as it has a different effect on them despite their active use of it. People need to use eye drops to prevent any irritation or have a severe allergic reaction to their eyeballs that may cause blindness in the future.

The lens usually dries out the eyes as it has something in contact on its surface, with the contacts solution being the answer to avoid this.

Medicated Eye Contacts for Allergies, Itchy Eyes

Research published in Cornea is the base for this contact lens from J&J, and it brings antihistamine to those that will wear it, being the first to bring a medicated eye contact for public use. The product will only treat allergies and itchy eyes but will not help those with astigmatism and red eyes.

Johnson's eye contact will be a disposable, one-time-use item for users, now approved by the FDA.

FDA Approval of Different Drugs

The FDA has been busy with its many approvals and tests in recent years, particularly as the regulatory agency focused on the global pandemic which resulted from the COVID virus' spread. However, the virus did not stop the agency's work from getting done, which showed a lot of approvals and studies regarding the many drugs that people use now.

One of the most relevant approvals of the FDA includes a Prostate Cancer test kit that will have the ability to give doctors a better understanding of their patients' diagnoses or unseen conditions. Another focus of the FDA also brought in a smartwatch from Withings, bringing a built-in EKG sensor and a blood sugar monitor from the tech wearable.

The agency also monitored the progression of COVID-19 vaccines and pills that help protect a person from the virus, something which is a massive need now.

The US FDA focuses on the many applications that different pharmaceuticals, technology, and companies bring to the table regarding health. Without their seal of approval, there would be an abundance of drugs that may offer unknown effects and promises that may dupe the public, case in point something as sensitive as one's eyes.
