Some Steam Decks Were Personally Delivered To Customers By Gabe Newell Himself

Steam Decks are already out and about in the wild. Maybe you already got your own, but you're not as lucky as some of these folks-especially if you're a big fan of Valve and its co-founder/CEO Gabe Newell.

Valve Asks Feedback for Steam Deck Titles to Avoid ’False’ Verification
Valve is now asking feedback for its Steam Deck Verified titles to avoid false negatives/positives. from SteamPowered

In a video posted on the official Valve YouTube channel, Newell was seen personally delivering a few Steam Deck units that he signed straight to customers' doorsteps. As per a report by GameSpot, some folks were excited to see him, others were confused, and a few didn't even recognize him.

Here is the video if you want to watch it in its entirety:

The Valve head honcho was with a staff member while he prepared to hand-deliver the Steam Decks, specifically to customers who lived close to the company's headquarters in Bellevue, Washington.

But if you assume that this is a bit of a low point for Newell, you'd be wrong: he used to be a delivery man himself for Western Union, handling newspaper and telegram deliveries when he was younger. As such, he actually has experience going door-to-door when delivering packages.

However, don't expect Gaben himself to knock on your door anytime soon with the Steam Deck you ordered. As reported by GameNGuide, this looks to be a one-time thing that will only cater to those living in the Seattle area close to Valve's HQ.

A couple of people first went on to Reddit to post about the occurrence, with one person describing how the events that led to the delivery went. They reportedly received a "spammy" email on February 27th which told them that a shipment for the Steam Deck they ordered arrived early. If you watched the video, this email is mentioned by the woman who assisted Newell during the delivery, who said that the people she sent the email to didn't even believe her.

Either way, people can finally enjoy the much-anticipated Steam Deck to see what all the fuss is about regarding Valve's new handheld gaming PC.

How Has The Steam Deck Fared So Far?

A few days after its official launch last February 25th, how has Valve's newest handheld gaming device fared so far? The short answer is mostly good, if not for a few quirks.

In a review by The Verge, they called the handheld gaming device an "original" with the same potential legacy as that of the original Nintendo Game Boy. But they're not exactly all praises about it:

Another review, this time by PCGamer, mostly focused not on the Steam Deck's ability to play the latest Steam games, but for its performance as an emulation system. They called the new Valve device a "portable retro console wonderland" capable of playing just about any old game you throw at it-whether it's a PS2, GameCube, Wii, PSP, or even a Nintendo Switch title.
