Apple AirTag and Stalkers

The tracking device of Apple is meant to serve as a smart key finder, which its users could attach to various personal items to locate them once they misplace them.

The Apple AirTag debuted way back on April 30, 2021. Nearly a year since its release, the Cupertino giant has yet to provide a solution to multiple controversial stalking incidents.

In the past couple of months, there have been multiple instances that an AirTag was used to spy on a person, wherein authorities have been increasingly alarmed.

As such, the Cupertino-based iPhone maker is now releasing a new anti-stalking feature on iPhone iOS 15.4 beta to further prevent additional misuse of the Apple tracking device, as per a news story by MacRumors.

However, it is to note that the tech giant is still testing the new Airtag anti-stalking feature on iPhones, thus it is exclusively available on iOS 15.4 beta. It has yet to be rolled out to the stable version of the mobile operating system.

Apple AirTag Anti-Stalking: How it Works

According to a recent report by Apple Insider, the new AirTag anti-stalking feature on iOS includes a message prompt that warns its users against illegal use of the tracking device.

The setup screen of the AirTag on iPhone now issues a warning, saying that "using it to track people without their consent is a crime in many regions around the world."

On top of that, Apple also disclosed that its tracking device is designed to be "detected by victims." What's more, it also allows authorities to identify the owner of the AirTag to go after them.

The new anti-stalking feature on iOS clearly states that using the AirTag as a stalking device is punishable by law. The Cupertino giant previously vowed to include the new setup warning on iOS.

But that's not all, Apple is also planning to add additional preventive measures to completely stop AirTag stalking incidents.

It further includes a function that would provide support for giving away the location of unknown AirTags. In addition, a much louder sound for the AirTag is also on its way to make it more noticeable.

AirTag Anti-Stalking: How to Get

As mentioned earlier, the new anti-stalking features for the AirTag are currently only available for iPhone users who have installed the iOS 15.4 beta.
