Apple Amsterdam Hostage Situation Resolved? Police Hit Gunman with a Car

An Apple Store hostage situation has recently been resolved with the police hitting the hostage taker with a car. In addition, Apple is assuring the public that all employees and customers are now safe.

Apple Responds to Amsterdam Apple Store Hostage Incident

According to the story by TechCrunch, Apple responded to a hostage situation that happened at an Amsterdam store that is now considered resolved. As per Apple's assurance, all employees and customers are safe "after this terrifying experience" in a statement obtained by the publication.

There is, however, an ongoing investigation into the incident as per the Cupertino giant. An Apple spokesperson expressed that the company wants to thank the local law enforcement for "their exceptional work and ongoing investigation."

Police Announced the Situation to be Resolved

To add, the spokesperson noted that the company's team and customers also took swift action and were able to show "incredible strength and resolve today." With that, it was also noted that the company is thankful for those that have shown their support and care towards each other "under such challenging circumstances."

The company's statement comes just a few hours after the police announced that they have resolved the situation within the flagship store. The situation saw the man hold at least a single person "hostage for hours" as per Reuter's report.

Amsterdam Local Police Hit Gunman with a Car

During the time of the standoff, residents were reportedly urged to keep indoors and stay away from "the popular area" as per the Amsterdam local police's tweet. As per AP, several hours after the incident, the gunman then ran out of the store which led to police stopping him through "hitting him with a car."

As per the police's tweet, they confirmed that the hostage taker is finally "out of the Apple Store" noting that the gunman was lying on the street as a robot checked him "for explosives." In addition, armed police officers also controlled the situation from a distance and the hostage was finally safe.

Other Apple Store Crime Incidents

As of the moment, no public comment was given by the police as per the potential motives of the gunman. As per AP, local broadcaster AT5 "suggested that the hostage taker was attempting an armed robbery."

With more than 500 retail locations located all around the world, this actually isn't the very first time that a certain Apple Store turned into "the scene of a crime." A previous event that happened during the summer of last year, two Atlanta teenagers were reportedly arrested for "allegedly shooting a store security guard" as per ABC News.

Just a few months after that incident, a certain Manhattan Apple Store security guard was stabbed after having informed a customer that they were "required to wear a mask to enter the store" according to an article by ABC7NY.
