Tesla Model 3's online listing changed its allegedly "exaggerated" range claims after the regulatory commission of South Korea probed the American carmaker.
Tesla Model 3 Range Claims in South Korea
As per a news story by Bloomberg, the Fair Trade Commission of South Korea recently gave Tesla a heads up that it would be initiating an investigation after it appears that the American EV maker has violated the advertising laws in the Asian territory.
The violation that the South Korean regulator was pertaining to in the notice is regarding the driving range of the Tesla Model 3.
The advertisement of the automaker reportedly claims that the EV sedan could go for "more than'' 528 kilometers in a mere single charge of its battery.
The promised range of the Model 3 ad was dubbed by the Fair Trade Commission of South Korea as "exaggerated" as some weather conditions make it impossible for the EV to reach its range claim.
For instance, Bloomberg noted in the same report that the driving ranges of electric vehicles face a slight decrease in battery power in cold weather. It is worth noting that the temperature in the capital of South Korea, Seoul, could go as low as 0 degrees Celsius during wintertime.
That said, when it is winter in the Asian country, the battery range of the Tesla Model 3 goes lower than its promised 528 kilometers.
Tesla Model 3 Updates Range Claims
According to a news story by Teslarati, the range claims of the Tesla Model 3 in its South Korean online listing have been slightly updated following the probe by the regulator.
As such, this time around, the updated page of the Model 3 sedan now specifically says 528 kilometers per charge, rather than the previous claim of "more than" 528 km or 328 miles in a single charge.
However, Teslarati noted in its report that the range claims in South Korea appear to be significantly less than the website of the EV tech giant shows in the United States.
The Model 3 page in the US declared that the EV sedan could reach up to "358 miles" or 576 kilometers, whereas the allegedly "exaggerated" range in Korea was only at 328 miles for one charge.
Nevertheless, it is to note that the investigation of the South Korean Fair Trade Commission for the Tesla Model 3 range claims has yet to come to its conclusion.
