Spotify, Joe Rogan Deal: How Much is it?

As per a news story by New York Times, previous reports claimed that Spotify paid one of its podcasters that draws massive following, Rogan, by about a hefty $100 million.

However, it turns out that the previously expected amount for the Spotify and Joe Rogan deal was only half of what was actually at stake.

The exclusive license deal is now reportedly costing the streaming service for its three and a half years with Rogan a staggering amount of $200 million, at least that is what the source of the NY Times claims.

Although the previously reported $100 price tag was already steep, if the latest report of Times were to be believed, it took double that to seal the deal between Spotify and the American Ultimate Fighting Championship or UFC commentator.

According to a recent report by Mashable, the deal between the two debuted way back in 2020, and rumors were saying back then that Spotify had to pay hundreds of dollars to make it possible.

Thus, "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast has been exclusively released on Spotify since then.

Joe Rogan Spotify Controversy

The recent disclosure of the costs of the Rogan and Spotify deal comes shortly after Niel Young demanded the streaming service to completely remove his entire music catalog. It comes as there has been COVID-19 misinformation in various episodes of the podcast of Rogan.

The musician explained that he was "doing this because Spotify is spreading fake information about vaccines, potentially causing death to those who believe the disinformation being spread by them."

Spotify ended up taking the side of Rogan, which now makes more sense as the deal costs $200 million, Mashable said in its report.

Spotify and Podcasting

The Swedish-based audio streaming service has been stepping up its podcasting game by making titles exclusive to them.

That said, Spotify has already successfully overtook Apple as the top podcast platform in the United States last Oct. 2021, according to a story by Apple Insider.

On top of that, the streaming platform recently purchased two podcasting firms, namely, Charitable and Podsight.

What's more, Spotify still takes the major slice of the pie in terms of music streaming platform market share, outperforming tech giants like Apple and Amazon.
