Twitter's newest CEO, Parag Agrawal, announced that he would take his paternity leave to welcome his second son. The 37-year-old chief executive officer took over the position on November 29, 2021.
But, since his wife is about to give birth, he needs to take a temporary leave to be there for her. As of the moment, he didn't confirm the exact time frame of his paternity leave.
Agrawal only said that he would be out for a few weeks. Although he will be taking paternity leave, Twitter's CEO confirmed that he will still coordinate with the company's executive team.
Twitter CEO Takes Paternity Leave
According to The Washington Post's latest report, Parag doesn't plan to have an interim CEO temporarily take his place while he's out.
On the other hand, Twitter's Head of Corporate Communications Laura Yagerman took this opportunity to share how they value their employees' leaves.
"At Twitter, we encourage and fully support employees taking parental leave in whatever way works best for each person," she explained.
Yagerman added that they launched a parental leave program that allows employees and officials of Twitter to take up to 20 weeks of flexible paternity leave.
She further explained that once staff takes their parental leaves, they can adjust the duration. This means that they can return back to the office in less than or exactly after 20 weeks.
Common Duration of Paternity Leave
The total number of weeks in a paternity leave depends on the law implemented by a country for it. In the United States, WhatToExpect reported that paternity usually leaves last 12 weeks.
Based on the U.S. Family and Medical Leave Act, leaves are guaranteed for staff who need to take care of their newborns, newly-adopted children, or care for their sick family members.
As of the moment, Twitter and other Silicon Valley tech firms are the leaders in extending paid leaves for new parents.
