After rebranding Facebook into Meta, Mark Zuckerberg came up with another term from his mind. This time, the tech CEO wants to call his employees "Metamates, according to the latest report.
Meta, Metamates, Me
On Tuesday, The Verge's senior reporter Alex Health tweeted that Zuckerberg shared a revamped version of company values. Aside from these changes, the Facebook boss also mentioned that the Metamates should respect each other and "look" to the future.
Zuckerberg used the catchphrase "Meta, Metamates, me" to emphasize the importance of the company's corporate values. He also urged the staff to prioritize their overall well-being, in addition to considering each of their interests.
According to Gizmodo, the "Metamates" terms should not be confused with a fiber supplement called Metamucil. For those who do not know this substance, this is used to treat gastrointestinal conditions such as constipation.
However, Zuckerberg does not focus on the origin of the Metamates term. He instead put the emphasis on the company's directive particularly on its long-term mission of "moving fast together."
The values statement also included the focus on a long-term impact, as well as becoming "bold" to explore new discoveries. Meta wants all of the employees to live by its values of being open which was now translated into living in the future.

Where Did 'Metamates' Originate
In the same report, the upcoming chief technical officer of Meta, Andrew "Boz" Bosworth shared the origin of the "Metamates" term.
According to the current VP of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality, the said word was coined by Douglas Hofstadter, a popular physicist. This term surfaced when an employee reached out to him while searching for a good idea about the term.
Apparently, its inspiration can also be compared to people working on the ship, hence the term "shipmates."
After embracing a new brand under Meta, Facebook continued to thrive in the social media industry by announcing its plans to dive into the metaverse. However, many people did not like the idea behind this rebranding.
As NDTV reported, some Twitter users quickly commented about the "Metamates" announcement. One user said that the term was only used as a diversion from the current issues that Facebook is facing at the moment.
With regards to the issue with whistleblower Frances Haugen, users think that the company should face the revelations behind its actions.
Haugen recently tweeted that FB is not "nicing" them to death. She added that the social media firm must recognize the damage that it inflicted instead of never looking back.
Meta Underperformed in Q4 2021
If there was the most explosive news surrounding Meta this February, it would be its controversial performance on the most recent earnings call. According to Tech Times, the company did not do well with the metaverse trend at that time.
The following week after this announcement, Zuckerberg said that they would focus on bringing short-video products like that from TikTok.
