Google Chrome users are now at risk of a new zero-day flaw in the popular browsing system. Because of the vulnerability's severity, the search engine giant was forced to release an emergency security update to prevent the issue.
"The Stable channel has been updated to 98.0.4758.102 for Windows, Mac, and Linux which will roll out over the coming days/weeks," said the giant tech firm.
The company added that it also updated the extended stable channel of Chrome to 98.0.4758.102, which is expected to roll out to Windows and Mac devices in the coming weeks.
Google Chrome Emergency Update Released!
According to Forbes' latest report, all Google Chrome browsers across the globe are affected by the new zero-day vulnerability or CVE-2022-0609, which is considered a high-level security threat.
This means that around 3.2 billion users are at risk of getting their data breached by hackers and other online attackers.
Aside from Chrome's latest zero-day vulnerability, Google also listed other new high-level security flaws in its popular browser.
These include the following:
- CVE-2022-0607: Use after free in GPU. Reported by 0x74960 on 2021-09-17
- CVE-2022-0605: Use after free in Webstore API. Reported by Thomas Orlita on 2022-01-13
- CVE-2022-0604: Heap buffer overflow in Tab Groups. Reported by Krace on 2021-11-24
- CVE-2022-0603: Use after free in File Manager. Reported by Chaoyuan Peng (@ret2happy) on 2022-01-22
- CVE-2022-0608: Integer overflow in Mojo. Reported by Sergei Glazunov of Google Project Zero on 2021-11-16
- CVE-2022-0606: Use after free in ANGLE. Reported by Cassidy Kim of Amber Security Lab, OPPO Mobile Telecom
How Can You Help Google?
Since Various security threats still target chrome, Google allows consumers to help it identify new bugs and vulnerabilities.
If ever you identify a new security issue on the Chrome browser, you can visit Google's Chromium Bugs website and send the flaw you encountered.
Once you are there, all you need to do is click the "New Issue" option and provide the essential details. After that, Google will do the rest.
