The United States' Federal Trade Commission is now issuing a warning to the public to avoid getting scammed this Valentine's Day, as people masquerading to be lovers. Scammers are now rampant and skillful in pretending to be "Sugar Babies" or online love interests, only to extort or fool a person into sending money this love month.

Not all lovers are there for you, as some only want your money, then leave you heartbroken and penniless.

The FTC released a warning for everyone getting ready to celebrate Valentine's Day 2022 with their partners or loved ones online. The agency specifically pertains to those who meet online, as many are scammers and threat actors who only want a person's money and no intimacy with them.

There even is something that the FTC calls "Romance Scams," This is when people resort to making a person feel loved or special, only to get to their bank accounts and bleed them dry.

The agency warns people of cryptocurrency, gift cards, and wire transfers that may be significant indications that it is not an act of love but an act of duping one into a misleading and unfortunate event.

People should be vigilant as last year recorded a whopping $547 million sent to scammers that led people to believe that they found something real online.

Threat Actors, Hackers, Scammers: Rampant During Holidays

Catfishing is also a part of the scams available online right now. That is the act of pretending to be someone else and getting something like intimacy or money in the process. However, there are numerous fraudulent schemes now in the online world, and it could be hackers, threat actors, or con artists that aim to steal people's money only and leave them with trust issues.

Several reports of phishing scams this Valentine's Day 2022 are high, and it surrounds the holiday as people may be more vulnerable as they seek the love they want.

Since 2020, several people did not have had the chance to celebrate Valentine's Day as it was when the coronavirus manifested to plague the world with its deadly virus. Some people resorted to the only means and ways to connect with their loved ones, and it is through Zoom dates and video calls that gave them a chance to enjoy the holiday.

Getting it on with the person you know and trust personally may be a higher level of security when sending them money online, but know that they might also be scamming you in the long run.

The same goes for those that people only met online, as it does not have any security or trail whatsoever, and it will be a horrible experience this 2022 if people will not be careful with the red-flagged scammers now.
