Nintendo Switch hacker, Gary Bowser, has been sentenced to more than three years of imprisonment, the United States Department of Justice said in a press release.

As per a news story by The Verge, Bowser is part of a platform known as Team Xecuter, which is home to modchips for various gaming consoles, including three from Nintendo, such as the NES Classic Edition, Nintendo 3DS, and the Nintendo Switch.
On top of that, it also offered hacking tools for the Sony PlayStation Classic and the gaming console of Microsoft, Xbox.
Bowser and Xecuter reportedly sold software that goes by the name SX OS, which allows Nintendo console gamers to download software on the systems of the 3DS, Wii, and DS, according to a report by ComicBook.com.
Way back in Oct. 2021, Bowser had already pleaded guilty to two of the felony charges filed against him by the Nintendo of America. Consequently, Bowser has also agreed to pay the gaming firm a whopping $4.5 million in damages.
The Verge noted in the same report that the Nintendo hacker was deported to the US after he was arrested by the authorities in the Dominican Republic way back in Sept. 2020. Since then, Bowser has been in federal custody.
Meanwhile, last Feb. 4, the Canadian Nintendo hacker reportedly pleaded for a shorter jail time than five years.

However, this time around, a few months after he had pleaded last year, the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington handed down its sentence to the Nintendo hacker.
The sentence of the US District Court puts Bowser to imprisonment for up to 40 months.
Nintendo of America released a statement regarding the recent prison sentence of Bowser, thanking the law enforcement agencies for going after privacy operations, which "cause serious harm to Nintendo and the video game industry."
The gaming firm went on to specifically thank the Office for the Western District of Washington, the US Department of Justice Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section, and the FBI Homeland Security Investigations of the Department of Homeland Security.
