Tesla is no stranger to recalls and although some of them can be dealt with over-the-air software, a new issue has surfaced regarding windshield defrosting. Luckily, this is yet another issue that Tesla aims to resolve through its over-the-air software updates.
Tesla to Fix a 'Software Issue' Affecting 26,681 Vehicles
In the fifth vehicle recall that the company had since November of last year, the new issue involves its windshield defrosting performance. As per the NHTSA, however, the main problem stems from a "software error", making it easier for Tesla to fix through an update.
According to the story by Mashable, after five different recalls have been made ever since November of 2021, Tesla is issuing yet another recall for 26,681 vehicles. The current problem reportedly decreases the EVs' windshield defrosting performance stemming from issues with its heat pump.
NHTSA States Which Tesla Models are Affected
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or NHTSA posted a notice on February 8 stating that the issue has affected a wide range of Tesla vehicles. Amongst the vehicles affected are the Tesla Model 3 units of the year 2021-2022, Tesla Model X units of the year 2021-2022, Tesla Model S units from 2021-2022, and Tesla Model Y units from 2020-2022.
The notice details that a valve located in the heat pump could open unintentionally due to a software error and trap the "refrigerant inside the evaporator." As a result, defrosting performance could decrease.
Windshield Defrosting Issue Could 'Reduce the Driver's Visibility'
In turn, the issue could cause windshield defrosting problems which, as per the NHTSA, could "reduce the driver's visibility" and ultimately result in the increasing risk of a crash. In addition, a free over-the-air software update will be sent to the affected models in order to fix the current issue.
As per Mashable, the number of issues coming out regarding Tesla vehicles has somehow been "worrying" despite the latest issue being "one of the smaller recalls" compared to other major fixes.

In December of 2021, Tesla had to deal with another issue, which regards to their frunk and rearview camera problems, which affected almost half a million vehicles. To add, in November, just a month before, airbag issues have started to surface, affecting thousands of different Tesla units.
