Tesla design chief, Franz von Holzhausen, blasts the products of Apple for what he claims lack of innovation in its product design, noting that there's "nothing to look forward to" from the iPhone maker.
Tesla Design Chief vs. Apple Products
The lead design chief of Tesla took a swipe at Apple in an interview on the Spike Car Radio podcast, as per a news story by 9to5Mac.
The Tesla design chief, Halzhausen, was asked in an interview about the products and designs that were developed by other tech giants that inspire him the most.
He went on to mention Apple as he answered the query, saying that he personally wears an Apple Watch.
However, he puts it this way: "I actually wear, and I hate to say it, an Apple Watch." The Tesla design chief says he only does so due to the fitness features of the smartphone watch alone.
Then, the Tesla design chief went on to blast Apple products in general, claiming that there's nothing to look forward to" from them, which makes them mere continuation of the current models.
Holzhausen further stated that the new products of the Cupertino-based tech giant only flaunts "slight refinement" for its predecessors.
As such, he continued to take a swipe at the iPhone maker, adding that it is hard to take inspiration or motivation from the new products of the tech giant.
Tesla Design Chief
According to a report by Apple Insider, the current lead design chief of Elon Musk's EV tech giant started his stint in Tesla way back in 2008.
Previously, Holzhausen worked with other giant automakers, such as General Motors, Volkswagen, and Mazda.
He worked on the overall looks of various Tesla EVs, including the Model 3, Model S, Model X, and the Model Y, as the design chief of the tech giant. Not to mention that it is also responsible for the design of the odd-shaped Cybertruck, the Semi truck, and the Roadster-all of which have yet to be released.
Tesla vs. Apple
9to5Mac noted in the same report that it is not the first instance that a Tesla exec blasted Apple.
In fact, its CEO and founder, Musk, himself previously criticized the "walled garden" of the Apple App Store. On top of that, the billionaire also attacked the Cupertino giant's use of cobalt batteries of both the iPhone and MacBook.
It is worth noting as well that Apple is reportedly working on a secretive car project, which previously poached various key engineers of Tesla.
