FaceTime users could now blur their backgrounds while on a video call whether they are using their iPhone, Mac, or iPad.
Facetime Blur Background
The latest feature on FaceTime is fitting for those who are on an endless video call marathon from work meetings to catching up with their friends.
Instead of keeping your background clear of clutter or making it look like you are in a studio, blurring it is an instant way to make it look good in a video without much effort.
The raging COVID-19 pandemic has forced most of us to use our rooms, which might be untidy and full of personal stuff at times, as a backdrop during video calls.
Not to mention that sometimes, spontaneous calls with friends do not give us much time to make our backgrounds presentable.
Thankfully, Apple's video calling app, FaceTime, has a background blurring function that works for its various devices, such as the iPhone, iPad, and even Macs.
According to LifeWire, blurring the background could end up highlighting your face, all the while taking away the attention to a distracting backdrop.
How to Blur Background on FaceTime
As per the report of Apple Insider, the Cupertino giant introduced the FaceTime blur background feature on the latest update of its OS across its devices, namely the macOS Monterey, iOS 15, and iPadOS 15.
The news outlet further noted that the blur background feature is similar to the Portrait effect on the iPhone, where it gives the background a virtual bokeh effect.
Here's how to do it:
- Open the FaceTime app.
- Then swipe the Control Center on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
- Select the video effect in the upper left corner.
- Next, tap on the Portrait icon to blur the background during the call.
FaceTime Blur Supported Devices
It is worth noting that the FaceTime feature is limited to the newer devices of Apple. For iPhones, it only works for those that already have depth-sensing technology, which also produces the Portrait mode photos.
As such, the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max could still use the blur feature albeit its age.
That said, the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, as well as the newer iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max also support FaceTime's blur function.
On top of that, the latest flagship of Apple also has blur background feature, such as the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone Pro, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
Meanwhile, you need to have at least a 5th gen iPad mini, 3rd gen 12-inch iPad Pro, 11-inch iPad Pro, 8th gen iPad, or a 3rd gen iPad Air, or later to use the said feature.
