During last year's mid-season finale of The CW's Supernatural, we saw the demon associated with Dean's (Jensen Ackles) Mark of Cain come alive again, this time by slaughtering the men who kidnapped Claire.
Is the demon inside Dean back? Did it ever really go away? Is anyone safe? Can the Winchester brothers figure a way to get rid of the Mark? These are all burning questions for Supernatural when it returns on The CW on Tuesday, January 20.
In the meantime, check out the series' new promo trailer, which asks these questions and more.
The trailer sees the return of Felicia Day as Charlie, with Dean, inexplicably, punching her. When last we saw Charlie, she was traipsing off to Oz with Dorothy, so, apparently, she's returned from that other realm. That's probably good, because it seems the brothers need her help. In the clip above, she learns about the Mark of Cain and the problem with Dean. And as she says, "It is always something with you boys, isn't it?"
Meanwhile, Metatron (Curtis Armstrong) is back out and about, and probably causing chaos for the brothers and Castiel (Misha Collins).
And what's up with the demons attacking the King of Hell, Crowley? (Mark Shepard). And will we see more of Crowley's mommy issues that were brought up in previous episodes this season?
Here's the full synopsis of the first Supernatural episode of the year, titled "The Hunter Games":
"THE AFTERMATH - After the massacre at the ranch, Dean (Jensen Ackles), Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Castiel (Misha Collins) double their efforts to find a cure for the Mark of Cain but there is nothing in the lore that can help them. Desperate, Castiel comes up with an idea that Sam deems the 'single worst idea I've ever heard.' Meanwhile, Rowena (guest star Ruth Connell) continues to plot against Crowley (Mark Sheppard), and Castiel tries to mend his relationship with Claire (guest star Kathryn Love Newton) who is plotting revenge against Dean for killing her friend."
The network also released a sneak peek clip from "The Hunter Games" featuring an emotional conversation between Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Castiel about Claire and the consequences of Dean's actions.
The CW recently renewed Supernatural for an 11th season.
