The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 launched last Nov. 30, and flagship Android smartphones are expected to feature the new flagship chip of Qualcomm for their 2022 lineup.
Snapdragon 8 and Android Phones
In fact, the Chinese phone maker, Xiaomi, is reportedly releasing its Xiaomi 12 smartphones before 2021 comes to an end, which will debut the successor of the Snapdragon 888.
On top of that, other phone makers have also announced that their upcoming smartphones will be sporting the new chip.
According to the news story by Android Authority, massive phone brands, such as Xiaomi, Oppo, Motorola, and ZTE, have already announced that their future flagships will be powered by the Snapdragon 8.
Not to mention that brands like former Huawei sub-brand, Honor; Xiaomi-affiliated gaming brand Black Shark; and Oppo subsidiaries like Vivo and Realme are following suit.
Some reports also suggest that the South Korean phone maker of Galaxy devices, Samsung, is also slated to carry the Qualcomm flagship chip. However, the tech conglomerate has yet to issue any confirmation.
Snapdragon 8
As per the report by The Next Web, the latest flagship chip of Qualcomm interestingly launched with a simpler moniker than its predecessor that typically includes about three numbers in total.
On the other hand, the latest Qualcomm mobile chipset now carries a minimalistic name of Snapdragon 8.
All that said, with the Snapdragon 8 expectedly filling up the upcoming flagship Android phones, here's how it compares with the Apple A15 Bionic, which is the flagship device of the Cupertino giant, the iPhone 13, features.
Snapdragon 8 vs. Apple A15 Bionic Chip
Although the Snapdragon 8 has yet to officially debut along with a smartphone, PCMag has already published early benchmark tests of the flagship chip.
It turns out that the CPU performance of the new Qualcomm chip is struggling to reach the impressive performance of the Apple A15 Bionic chip.
However, it is worth noting that the results still come from early raw benchmark tests of the Snapdragon 8.
PCMag further noted that the unit that the news outlet tested the new Qualcomm chip with is both "buggy and un-optimized."
So, there is still some room for improvement once it is released along with a smartphone.
Snapdragon 8 vs. Apple A15 CPU Benchmark
To be precise, the early benchmark test of the CPU of the latest Snapdragon got a 1,235 score for single-core, whereas its multi-core score garnered 3,837.
On the other hand, the iPhone 13 Pro Max got a single score of 1,735 and a multi-core score of 4,647.
That said, the Snapdragon 8 is still trailing behind the Apple chip. However, it is performing better than its predecessor, based on the benchmark test of the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra.
