Pixel 6 users switching from other Android phones or even Apple's iPhone would have been surprised to learn that turning off the Google smartphone is not how it used to be.
The latest flagship offering of the search engine giant, Google, introduced numerous new features and other tweaks as it also debuted the latest version of Android.
It is also worth noting that the release of the Android 12 has become the most radical change that the mobile operating system has faced in the past years.
That said, there are tons of things, which we have been used to before, that have drastically changed in nature.
Pixel 6: How to Turn Off
For instance, the lock button of the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro no longer let their users access the power button of the smartphone. Instead, there are now multiple ways to shut down the latest device from Google.
What's more, long-pressing the lock button on the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro now ends up summoning the AI-powered virtual assistant of the search engine giant known as the Google Assistant, as per the report by 9to5Google.
As such, Google introduced new ways to initiate the shutdown option on the Pixel 6 phone lineup.
According to the support page of Google, here's how to turn off your Pixel 6 phone--among other ways.
- Press the power and volume up buttons at the same time.
- Then, click the "Power Off" option that should appear on your screen.
How to Turn Off Pixel 6 Using Lock Button
Although the turn-off button on the Pixel 6 has become easy access for its virtual assistant, some users are not interested in using it.
Instead, others may still want their phone to turn off by holding the lock button--just like how other smartphones previously did, including the Pixel 5a and earlier.
Thankfully, Google still allows Phone 6 users to turn off their phones by solely holding the lock button, sans the additional volume rocket, via a settings option.
To bring back the lock button as the key to shut down your device, here's how to do it:
- Open the Settings app on your Pixel 6.
- Then, select the System option.
- Next, tap "Gestures."
- Scroll down and tap the "Press and hold power button" option.
- After which, disable the "Hold for Assistant" toggle.
That's it. The lock button should do its classical function once again by simply disabling the new "Hold for Assistant" option on the Pixel 6 phones.
