More than a year ago, Sir Patrick Stewart, captain of the USS Enterprise and certified cool person, shocked the Internet when he posted a picture to Twitter saying he was eating his first slice of pizza. This picture.
People were shocked. Outraged. Flabbergasted! How has this great man gone his entire life without eating a slice of pizza!? Well it turns out it was all a misunderstanding, as Stewart explained on Conan recently.
Stewart has eaten pizza before (though he says it wasn't until in his twenties that he had his first taste), but it is true that the picture on the web was from when he ate his first "slice" of pizza, as in the first time he ordered an individual slice from a restaurant. Prior to that point, he says he had always ordered whole pizzas, never knowing that some restaurants served pizza by the slice. If you noticed, he did emphasize "slice" in the initial tweet, but that's the Internet for you. Always taking things out of context.
Though he may have cleared up one Internet misunderstanding, he created a whole new problem when he revealed that he eats completely wrong. Who eats pizza with a fork and a knife? Pizza is made for you to pick up, not cut and slice into tiny bite-sized pieces. If that's how you like pizza, go bake some Bagel Bites or Pizza Rolls you big baby.
No offense, Sir Patrick. We just expected more from the man who is both Jean-Luc Picard and Professor Xavier.
